Chemo for Kibo
Edited again 2/4/09 - I am overwhelmed with everyones generosity in helping us fight this battle. We have reached our original goal here, to cover the costs of Kibo's chemotherapy. As you may know, we have had a large setback this week, which thankfully we have the funds to cover to get him back on his feet.
I dont know where we will go from here. It will depend on Kibo's progress with this life threatening situation, & his prognosis. I am praying we can continue his chemotherapy to keep in in the already attained remission. If so, we will have the great majority of that still covered financially, due to the very generous donations made to him. We of course, couldn't plan for emergencies like what happend this week, when deciding our original goal here, but we are so grateful the funds were there to back us up.
If people still want to contribute directly to the vet fund for Kibo, you can get that information in the web page for him, http://kibombf.shutterfly.com/ , which I encourge you to follow. Also, please read the entry from this eve, as general thank you to everyone who has donated. You will all, as most of you already have, recieve a personal thank you, but in this week of constant care for Kibo, it may take me a bit to get to the rest of the personal thank yous. If we continue with chemotherapy, we will absolutely need the funds that are being held in reserve for him, & possibly then some. If we dont, as promised, any funding left over will go to a very needy dog, from the Magic Bullet Fund, who needs financial assistance for his or her chemo treatment. Thank you so very much. Each & every one of you.

Note: Edited on 1/31/09. Due to a very large private donation to Kibos vet directly, from a wonderful stranger, we have raised all but $500 of the funds needed to completely cover Kibo's chemotherapy. Rebecca is beyond amazed at the outpouring of support for her Kibo. & is eternally grateful to everyone who has contributed, or sent a prayer or a good wish.

In conjunction with the Magic Bullet Fund, we are hoping to raise a good portion of the remaining funds needed towards the cost of chemotherapy for Kibo, which will run 15 weeks. The total treatment is appx $2500. The Magic Bullet Fund made a goal to cover a portion of Kibos treatment, & they have reached their goal of 30% of his vet bill, with donations from the Fund & private family & freinds. Now we are trying to help out with the rest of the treatment for Kibo, the part that his owner wasn't able to cover on her own, as a single mom, by reaching the remaining goal for vet bills of $1600.

Lymphoma is an insidious, aggressive cancer & without treatment, Kibo has only been given a 3 month survival time frame. With chemo, the chance of remission is 90-95% & he could very well live out the rest of his life comfortably & happily.

Many people consider treating an animal with chemo, to be "pushing the limits". Although the goal here is certainly to extend Kibo's time with his family, the ultimate goal is to allow him to live out his time with a quality of life that cancer, without treatment, cannot allow. The general public is not aware that dogs react nothing at all like humans do, to chemotherapy. Generally there are very few, if any, side effects - & a complete remission is very possible. Rebecca & her vet have made the decision that they will treat Kibo, as long as he is showing signs of health & vitality; which he most certainly is at this stage.

Any contribution, no matter how small, is very appreciated & extremely helpful. Please visit Kibo's personal website with photos & his diary of this journey they will walk together: http://kibombf.shutterfly.com/

Any donations made here that go over & above what is needed for Kibo's treatment, will go directly back into the Magic Bullet Fund, to help other dogs fight cancer.

Rebecca, Kibo & their family thank you from the bottom of their hearts. & Kibo sends a *lick lick, wag wag*
